Any emotions I would have for Albert that would extended beyond that of a familial bond would be highly inappropriate and bears no thinking of the possibility.

But if, as you said, everything was the same, but I did not feel the desire to destroy every instance of Fernand’s happiness, I believe I would have still become friends, if not more, with Albert, purely because he was so trusting of me and because of how close he was to the other families. Who knows if things might’ve ended differently that way or not? Perhaps the Baron D’Epinany might have been spared and no one but those I tended to harm would have come to harm.

Though this is not the way these events took place, and so really, these wonderings bear no consequence, especially on those events that have already passed. What’s done is done and musing about how it might’ve gone differently under other circumstances, while amusing at times, serves no real purpose.

But to conclude, I doubt that in any alternate universe that I would not have been friends or more with Albert. It is simply impossible to think.
